Dark Light

In order to make my patterns accessible to everyone without devaluing the hard work I put into creating them, I have set up a Pay It Forward fund. You can read more about that here.

How It Works

There’s a new item in my shop called Pay It Forward. It’s priced at £5, the same as my accessory patterns, and Pay What You Want pricing is disabled for this one.

Anyone who wants to can buy one of these to contribute to the Pay It Forward fund. They’ll receive a pdf thank you letter with a license key on it. (You can ignore that – it’s for my records.)

I’ll keep a record of all these contributions, in an Airtable base.

Anyone who wants to request a pattern from the fund can fill in the request form. This puts the request straight into Airtable for me. You won’t be asked to explain anything – just your email and which pattern you want.

I’ll get an email as soon as a new request comes in, reminding me to look at it promptly.

I’ll then match up the new request with a contribution from the fund, and send you the pattern. You’ll get an email from Payhip titled “Thank you for your purchase!”, just as if you’d bought the pattern in the usual way.

(Please remember that matching up requests and contributions is a manual process and allow a few days for your pattern to come through.)

Pretty simple, right?

The Rules

  1. Only one donation can be made at a time
  2. All contributions are £5, and are subject to the same VAT / tax rules as if you were buying a pattern for yourself
  3. Requests will be fulfilled in the order they are received
  4. You may only have 1 active request at a time
    1. Duplicate requests will be deleted
    2. Once a request has been fulfilled, you are welcome to make another
  5. This is based entirely on the honour system; I’m trusting people to only request free patterns if they genuinely can’t afford to buy them
  6. Requestors will never be asked to explain themselves
  7. All requests will be honoured at my discretion
  8. Anyone found to be abusing the system will not receive any more free patterns
  9. I cannot tell contributors who received their donation, or vice versa
  10. Only individual patterns are available under this scheme, collections are not included

I reserve the right to update these rules or close the fund at any time.

In the event of the fund being closed, any unclaimed contributions would be refunded.
